A vacant 400 year-old worker’s cottage in Buriton Conservation Area, had remained empty in excess of 10 years. It was a typical two-up and two-down cottage but stood within substantial grounds. The large garden to the left hand side was re-developed to allow for a new 4 bedroom detached house in 2011 built in materials and styles to match the host dwelling.

The demolition and re-development of the existing dwelling was explored with the Conservation Officer however they were not in favour of erasing part of the village’s history; so the existing was extended and modernised considerably instead.

The proposals focused around the entrance hall (known as an anti-room) that contained the original fireplace at the heart of the dwelling. Off this important room came kitchen and family room, formal living room, study, utility and back up areas. A detached double garage was also added to the rear of the dwelling to maximise its use and to prevent cars parking on the narrow roads. (works undertaken at a previous practice).
