A very unique one-off house that was designed and project managed by me whilst living and working in Australia early 2010. This project was an architect’s dream; vacant site, park views, limitless budget, modern design and of course sunshine in abundance! The brief was to provide for 4 large bedrooms all with private bathrooms, open-plan living, dining and kitchen areas.

The principal facade design focused on the theories of conflicting symmetry and asymmetry, the physical bulk being in symmetry but the elements within being asymmetrical. The stepping back of the glazing to the principal bedroom to allow for a balcony, yet bedroom 2’s glazing being pushed forward whilst the physical elements are proportionally symmetrical.

The interiors brief was ‘clutter-free’ living with lots of open-plan space and reflecting light throughout. A cool, calm mix of natural materials and colours ensured that the dwelling remained at an even temperature throughout the year whilst offering a contemporary ‘tailored’ look. The rear garden offered sanctuary with a relaxation pool and fire-pits.
